What is project OpenMind - Aim and Goal?
Our main aim is to create mutual understandings, acceptance and interations between young people across the world. Project OpenMind is a cultural sharing project. We firmly believe that every human being has valuable experiences, thoughts and knowledge which, when shared via respectful interactions, will bring us all closer to a mutual understanding.
We reach our goals by setting up a number of cultural sharing end exchange activities.
Main goals fo the project?
• To set up interactions, sharing and exchanges between young people in Denmark and in the rest of the world. We will reach this goal through a number of activities.
• To inspire youth to keep an “open mind” towards various cultures and various ways of living and thinking.
• To show, tell about and illustrate aspects of danish culture in creative ways.
• To set up platforms for “Youth to Youth Sharing” and “Kids to Kids learning”. We want to create a forum for kids and young people where they can share and interact, within a frame of learning.
What is so special about Project OpenMind?
One unique aspect of this project is that, almost all activities are developed and carried out by young people age 13 to 18 .These young people are carefully selected by the the project managers, which also supervise them all through the process - from planning to carrying out the project activities. We set high standards for the quality in our project-activities.
How did it start and what have been done so fare?
This project is the brainchild of the couple Carsten Hvidbak and Anne Agerbo, and very much inspired by the spirits of their children Cecilie and David.
It all began when we, as a family, visited India in 2007. From this trip grew a professional friendship with likeminded filmmakers. This soon developed and in august 2008 Project OpenMind took part in the Kids Film festival: „Where Kids Decide“ in New Delhi. Giving workshops, presentations and being a part of the international jury. 2009 and 2010 gave birth to „Kids to Kids Learning“ and also gave the project a chance to exchange in Cairo.
In 2011 Project OpenMind visitedNew Delhi with a team of 8 young people (age 13 til 18), with an amazing sharing programme:
• Workshops „Same-Same-but Different“ (Kids to Kids Learning)
• Workshops „Fun with Science“ (Kids to Kids Learning)
• Young musicians performing concerts presenting danish and western music
And we had the pleasure of giving a number of workshops for educators on developemental psychology and learning styles
